Factory Ammo Workflow
Factory Ammo Comparison
01
A box label is not a result.
Factory ammo is still rifle-specific.
A load can look great on paper and shoot poorly in one rifle. Another box can look ordinary and become the rifle's favorite. Qual8 gives that comparison a measured record instead of leaving it in memory.
The target keeps the ranking honest.
Velocity matters, bullet choice matters, and price matters. But the first question is simple: what did your rifle actually put on target under the same protocol?
02
Analyze ammo without becoming a handloader.
Choose the rifle.
Keep the test tied to the rifle, barrel, optic, setup, and current round count.
Choose the factory loads.
Record each ammo line, bullet, lot notes, and velocity data when you have it.
Shoot Sigma8 targets.
Run the loads under the same distance, target protocol, group count, and shooting setup.
Analyze the result.
Use shot mapping, group size, mean radius, point of impact, velocity, and confidence context to rank the test.
03
What Qual8 can make obvious.
Best observed target
Which factory load produced the strongest observed result in your rifle, and how much evidence supports trusting it?
Repeatability signals
Group size, mean radius, velocity SD/ES, centroid, and point-of-impact shift help show whether one result was noise or a pattern.
Practical next buy
Qual8 can help you decide what to test again, what to buy more of, and what does not deserve another range day.
04
Optional measurements can explain more.
Factory ammo can teach more than group size. If you want a deeper comparison, Qual8 can also record loaded neck diameter and CBTO measurements for the ammunition you are testing.
These measurements do not replace target results. They help explain why two boxes of ammo can behave differently in the same rifle.
Loaded neck diameter
Measure the outside diameter of the loaded case neck with calipers. Qual8 can compare loaded-round consistency across factory brands and lots, and surface neck-diameter spread that points toward neck-wall variation or loaded-round stack differences.
Dig deeper at Sigma8 Bench 1CBTO
Measure cartridge base-to-ogive with calipers and a CBTO/comparator gauge. Qual8 can compare bullet seating position across ammo brands, lots, and bullet designs so the target result has more context.

Factory comparison feeds the rifle story.
Factory Ammo Comparison builds on Range Session results. It keeps target analysis, velocity context, lot notes, barrel age, and future qualifier attempts tied to the rifle.
Qual8 can help you make better ammo decisions from the evidence you already shoot.
